National Garden Clubs

Founded in 1929, National Garden Clubs (NGC) is a not-for-profit educational organization with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. It comprises 50 State Garden Clubs and the National Capital Area: 6,218 member garden clubs and approximately 222,000 members. NGC recognizes 149 National Affiliates and 447 International Affiliates.

NGC provides education, resources and national networking opportunities for its members to promote the love of gardening, floral design, civic and environmental responsibility through the areas of:

Service – recognized as the largest volunteer gardening organization in the world, offering a variety of challenging and rewarding service opportunities.

Environment – aids in the protection and conservation of natural resources, promotes civic beautification and encourages the improvement of roadsides and parks.

Education – awards annual college scholarships, sponsors courses in environmental education, flower arranging, gardening study and landscape design, and promotes good horticultural practices.

Cultural – supports community service projects, sponsors outreach programs for youth and international affiliates, encourages civic development and legislative advocacy.

NGC is composed of members for whom national dues are paid according to the Bylaws. This includes members of a garden club belonging to a State Garden Club, Honorary Life Members, Life Members, National Affiliates, International Affiliates, and members of Youth Gardeners.

Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, Inc.

As a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, the Calvert Garden Club participates fully in regional and state activities of the National Garden Clubs, beginning with District II events.  It is interesting to note that Maryland was one of the first 16 charter members to establish the federation as part of the garden club movement which began in the early part of the last century.
